Overview   

Amazon Giveway is a flexible sweepstakes and promotions platform that allows anyone to create their own giveaways using millions of Amazon products. Using Amazon’s product selection and fulfillment network, we do the heavy lifting for the customer – acquire prizes, select winners, collect shipping addresses, fulfill prizes, and much more – and make it easy for anyone to run a giveaway for any purpose.  

Note: I was involved in early phase of product development; worked with the team to define use cases and user flows, and created designs to get the management buy-in. Some parts of designs such as participant facing experience were re-iterated by other designers before launch. Below, I only showcased the design works that were done by me and are currently live for customers. 

User flows

There are two parts to the experience; i) hosts set up and promote their giveaways and ii) participants discover and enter the giveaway. The following is the simplified version of user flows. 

 

Designs

There were two high-level design goals. First goal was to integrate well with existing Amazon systems such as product detail pages and checkout processes so that customers can continue to use what they are familiar and trust. Second goal was to provide a simple and easy-to-use set up process even though the logistics of running a giveaway were complicated. I  grouped and sequenced information to reduce cognitive workload and replaced text clutter with clear visual representations.

Results & next steps

Many giveaways has run with steady rate since the launch. We also saw a high rate of repeat usage from hosts, which was one of the success metrics the team defined.  Later in 2015, the team introduced additional ways to enter giveaways such as watching a video and following hosts on Amazon and help hosts to better engage with their customers.
